Go Towards the Light: The Experience, The Escape, and The Expectation

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” -Jeremiah 29:11

“The sum of all parts of our life experiences equals the whole of who we become” (Baltimore, 2017). For many, it’s common to intertwine identity with their own life experiences. Essentially, an individual can never be greater than their experiences whether good or bad. This, in many ways is an identity crisis. As Christians, we must understand that God has placed in us a light! “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden” (Matthew 5:14). Our identity should always be intertwined with this truth, which prompts the question: “How do we become light seekers?” A light seeker understands that the foundation of that light is Jesus Christ. The light will enable those who don’t have light to gravitate towards those who have it. Possessing the light can be very difficult, as those who have it need to be extremely careful that they don’t deplete themselves of energy and time. Light seekers are supposed to enable others to recognize their own light!

There are times when we may not feel worthy to have the light. Essentially, we fall victim to the “Inemy” within. Sometimes, we can play against our own selves. This self-inflicted harm hinders our light, and can intensify our fear of progression. Through this, we act accordingly when trials come our way. Some issues seem to be tailor made, but we must remember that we serve a sovereign God. God will certainly take every situation and use it according to His perfect will! Through this, we can take joy that our trials don’t have to end in darkness. In fact, our lights should shine even during the hardest times in our lives. We must remember that when we sit in our afflictions, we sit in our darkness. In fact, if we’re sitting in our darkness, those who count on us for light can go astray. We must decide who we will serve. Will we serve the lack? Or the light? The latter promotes us from being light seekers to light bearers!
